My thoughts? I sure hope this helps people feel more comfortable with breastfeeding rather than providing shock value. I have the feeling it will probably go both ways, depending on the viewer. Also it doesn’t look like a very comfortable nursing position to stay in for very long (but it is a statue after all…).

Here are my thoughts on it.
It’s obnoxious.
The (nursing) position is ridiculous.
People talk about it improving the acceptance of breastfeeding in public, but who nurses their babies in public naked?
Not to mention the exploitation of a well-known celebrity for the sake of the artist’s fame. (He’s the same artist who did the Britney Spears birthing sculpture “Monument to Pro-Life”, nevermind that she had planned cesareans).
Here he is, talking out of his ass:
“Hopefully, my sculpture inspires an increase of wet nurses to assist women who have concerns about mastitis, or passing HIV to their infant.”
And then did you hear that one twin will be depicted as African American to “promote worldwide breastfeeding”?
Yes, seeing a woman breastfeeding as a piece of art is a powerful thing. But let’s be realistic about it. And pay tribute to the reality of the situation. Jolie stated that she never really figure out nursing both at the same time, and at three months she quit because she had done about as much as she could do.
This dude is sensationalistic. And I say it’s WAY more about his fame than it is about birth OR breastfeeding. That about sums it up for me and my thoughts.
